George's Story
‘Gave me the confidence to push out’
This story was written by one of our young advisors after interviewing George
George started feeling depressed, self-harming and hearing voices at the age of 14. He confided in a Connexions worker who referred him to an advocate. The advocate helped him to contact a doctor, and went with him to the first appointment. They also helped him to talk to his parents who, in the first few months, didn’t know what he was going through. George says that his advocate gave him “the confidence and push to speak out” for himself. George is now doing his GCSE’s and hopes to go into film making.
